Papa Is Not a Rolling Stone

So Keith Richards evidently snorted a bit of his daddy, who was cremated, with some blow. Why is this not the least bit surprising? What is more surprising to me is that Keith is the same age as MY father. I mean look at these two men......

My father looks so much younger and more, well, normal!! Keith looks all craggy and pasty yellow and kind of like he died and then they brought him back....not actually to life...just dug him back up and put a bunch of eyeliner on him so no one would notice.

What is up with his hair??? At least my Dad just works the bald head thing. I am so glad my dad does not look like a dead dug up pirate.

Also....a 63 year old man needs to button up that shirt Keith....no one wants to see what is down there.

The Little TV show that Could

So while other shows are jumping the shark (Lost) or off the air for 9 months (BSG) another little show over on CBS has been quietly gaining momentum all season. Jericho...have any of you watched it? It really is coming into its own. I actually think its been consistently a better show then Lost or Heroes.

If you havent had time to watch it go to http://www.cbs.com/primetime/jericho/
They offer all the episodes for viewing via your computer. This past weeks episode was just indicative of what the whole season has offered. My only beef is the weekly "musical" montage which unfortunately has become standard for almost EVERY serial drama on the air regardless of genre. Its tiresome even if sometimes effective.
So now that BSG is off and Heroes doesnt come back until late April i can enjoy wednesday nights as TV night with a back to back Jericho and Lost.

Texas Girl Scouts trying to bring back hats....

but i dont think hats ever truly go out of style. There will always be a place for a lady sporting a good hat. Dont you think?

My sister and her two daughters recently attended a mother daughter tea given by the girl scouts in their area. They actually decorated their own hats. Pretty nifty. I LOVE hats. Always have. And i actually used to have a pretty decent collection in college i would sport. Now its mostly winter togs for me. Oh well. I dont guess the wolverine is going to require me to decorate a hat one day for boy scouts or anything. The down side of having a boy. The upside.....no expensive prom dresses to buy either.

Ladies...i think we should have one day a week we proclaim "Hat day" and wear our most fun hats. Or give us an excuse to go buy one.

Honey....its never too late....there is still

hope for you to become a big star...

at 97 Mae Laborde is getting more work then ever. She didnt start her "acting" career until 4 years ago. "She was "Wheel of Fortune's" Vanna White (40 years in the future) for a recent episode of "MADtv." She was the stunned fiancee whose boyfriend finally gets around to proposing in a jewelry commercial. She faced down the Grim Reaper himself in a bit about elderly people without health insurance for "Real Time With Bill Maher." She's also been a cheerleader on ESPN, appeared in a Lexus commercial, had a recurring role on Spike Feresten's "Talkshow" and had a role in a JP Morgan Chase Bank commercial."
Just goes to show its never too late to make a dream come true OR to get into a new line of work.

Tired, Delirious, Congested...

I dont even know what day of the sickness it actually is. But the pressure in my ears is like a universe unto itself.

Somehow i managed a hike this morning at Raven run with the wolverine, two buddies, and two mommies. We had a picnic by the stream (of course me being sick...i didnt have anything at the house but raisins and cheese....so i tried to go thru a drive thru and pick up a muffin or something but i ended up at Fazolis getting pizza/pasta combo.....like you can actually eat that on a picnic on the trails......i told you i was losing it) ANYWAY my point is we wore the boys out and ended up heading back home around 2. The wolverine fell asleep fast in the van and slept 20 minutes. When i got him out at home he woke up and has been awake ever since.

So the one day i REALLY need a nap.......yeah.

I think i am about to seriously crash. If daddy doesnt show up soon we are screwed.

Day 4 of the Sickness....

and i waited up until 10pm, after having only 2 hours of sleep, to watch what may be the WORST episode of Lost ever. And proof that they are stalling and just throwing stuff at us. I have a feeling they had about 2 seasons worth of a good story arc and they are stretching it out to 5. Hmmm....shades of Alias.

Grrrrr.

Help me Battlestar Galactica, your my only hope.

Day 3 of The Sickness

Runny nose, congestion, achy throat, swollen glands, face hurts, itchy nose, sneezing, balloon head, teeth ache.

No signs of recovery.

Is this just allergies??? If so then after 5 years in Lexington i have finally arrived. I havent had an allergy episode like this since i was in high school. And that ended in TWO sinus surgeries.

The kicker is that since i am still nursing the wolverine i cant really take any of the good stuff. So any of you that have experience in this ....what did you take to help? Any natural, or homeopathic items?

Im desperate people.

Monday, March 26, 2007

I think my head is going to explode.

Any minute now.
Seriously.
I havent had a sinus attack like this one in years.
Someone send for help.
Seriously.

Restorative Yoga

is like a nap, but without that groggy, cranky state you wake up in afterwards. Its like a mini vacation without the dent in your checking account. In otherwords.....it rocks.

Two hours of solitude. Its basically 4 poses.....and no standing up. Every pose is supported by blankets, bolsters, blocks. Its rest for the weary.

There were 9 women there today in class. I say we were the luckiest 9 mommies in Lexington between the hours of 3 and 5pm.

"And on the seventh day God rested". I bet God was doing some restorative yoga that day.
Just going to show us that in order to "create" a happy child, a happy family, a peaceful home, a more productive member of society.....we all need our "rest".

Hope you all got yours today.

The Week In Review

So i had Monday "off", which basically means i added another FULL day of the wolverine to my schedule. When does that break come again???!!! Its been a good week though. The last 3 mornings i have been at the gym at 5:30 huffing and puffing like the pathetically out of shape 37 year old mommy that i am. I cant even go into the LIST of things going wrong with my body. Add to that the aches and pains of a rigorous new workout schedule and i am just about to collapse. The "high" i get from the workout is awesome though. I missed that. I guess a good workout is as close to a buzz as i get anymore.

So what is RIGHT with my body? Perhaps that is what i will focus on this week instead of the wreckage. Hey, im walking (barely) and talking and breathing.

Battlestar Galactica , my favorite show on currently wraps up its 3rd season this Sunday. I love the way they basically reinvent the show every season end. You never know what will happen. I cant wait.

This weeks episode of Lost actually didnt leave me irritated and frustrated. They actually moved the story along AND they flashback actually added to the present story. Wow.

The wolverine is in love with Carla, his favorite server at El Toro Restaurante. He now will say "Oooh Carla!" and then laugh. He has been learning new spanish words to impress her next time we go. His first crush.

Happy Birthday Amelia!!!!! I cant believe it was 7 years ago when i first held your little monkey self on my chest as we both recovered...me from surgery and you from birth. Who would have ever predicted that the day my sister had a c-section, i would have a laparoscopy!!!! Weird!!!

After just finishing my 4th Jello chocolate pudding cup of the evening, i remember why i dont buy these. I just bought myself 5 more miles on the treadmill.

From the desk of the wolverine

A shout out to two of my favorite ladies:

Nana Davis and
Grandmother

So mommy is still basking in the glow of a wonderful long weekend in TN so she really isnt up to posting so i figured i would fill in. It seems a road trip was just what she needed. I guess having the grandparents around to entertain me was a plus. She and daddy actually got to go to a movie without being interrupted. I dont really know what that is all about but she is smiling more today so i guess its good.

Here is my top 5 books of the week:

1) Harold and The Purple Crayon (that crazy Harold has the best time. I need one of those crayons)

2) Home for a Bunny

3) Curious George goes to school (Im not sure why he needs to go to school. But Coco Monkey says that back in the day when he was living with his tribe The Choco-Pop-Os, an education was most prized )

4) Thomas Breaks a Promise (actually he told a lie, but i decided to role with it and just pretend i didnt notice the inconsistencies within the story)

5) Easy to Read Stories of Winnie the Pooh (I just like turning those pages)

Here is my favorite song of the week:

Jammin'- Bob Marley and the Wailers

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

The Bromance continues....

The boys hit the park.

Then they clean up with a bath.

Noah was NOT amused when the wolverine started putting bubbles on his head. It seems even in the bath Noah likes order and neatness.

300

So THIS is what a large part of Americans want to spend their free time watching.......................
uh, ok.
Am i the only one who thinks a movie about a small group of cgi-chiseled men in briefs, without a chest hair between them, running, fighting, and sweating all over each other for 2 hours is , well,.....it seems Sparta is right across the river from Brokeback Mountain.
Admit it America. Your gay.

Obsessing

This site has some really cool facts you all should know. Go support your local Girl Scout. (and if you see my missing one tell her i really need my cookies.)

http://www.girlscoutcookies.org/

The trade off

You know what a 30 minute nap from your two year old gets ya? A toddler who goes to bed at 7am.

You know what it doesnt get ya?

Girl Scout Cookies.

Im filing an APB on my little girl scout.
Or at least on my 5 boxes of cookies.

One mothers success is another mothers failure...

So my friends son now lays down by himself and goes to sleep. "How on earth did you make that happen??!!" I asked her. "Oh well i had just had enough one day so i left him in the room to go to sleep by himself. Every time he got up i went and put him back in bed, played some Raffi and he finally went to sleep." Cut to two weeks later and she is a woman with a little freedom now.

So today I had enough. I put the wolverine in bed with his monkey, his Nemo, and his happy apple that makes music. I cleared the room of any distractions. (basically anything he could climb on, grab, pull, throw) Each time he got down i went back in and put him in bed. When he kept launching happy apple across the room i took it out. He finally decided to stay inbed, but standing. And walking. And somehow finding a way to mess with the blinds. This went on for over an hour.

So obviously i hadnt had quite enough after all. I ended up throwing stuffed animals, pillows, and blankets on top of him in a hysterical fit of laughter. Then his dad came in and roughhoused with him. So it didnt work for us today.

However, i did not nurse him. On that much i stood my ground.

Wow. Big victory for mom.

I believe my irritation is less about my childs behaviour and MORE about the fact that the girl scout who took me for FIVE boxes of cookies still has not delivered them!!!!!!! I know they are in honey. Ive seen you all at Kroger. And the other 2 girls i bought from got them to me earlier in the week. Its SUNDAY afternoon at 3:30 girlie.....prime cookie delivery hours. Where the heck are my thin mints? My shortbreads? My peanut butter patties? My peanut butter sandwiches? My **** caramel delites??!!!!!!! You live ONE STREET over.....how long could it take to walk your lazy, 7 year old touche' over here today and give me what is rightfully mine??!!!! A more desperate woman would have just picked up a couple of boxes outside Kroger and been on her way. But NO.....i ordered FIVE boxes from YOU in good faith that you would get them here the first of March and it is the 4th!!!!! I already blew through 3 boxes, i cant afford to order more. Dont you get it??? I need those 5 boxes.

Alright. How is everyone else doing today?

Whedon-verse

For all 3 of you who read this and are into Joss Whedons writings this article is good.

I personally am excited about the upcoming buffy comic. March 7th i believe is the date.
And did anyone else know there was a Serenity comic? And another one on the way.

Observations at weeks end.....

Swimming is a great sleep inducing activity for toddlers. Be prepared for your bundle of energy to take a 3 hour post swim nap.

When your child calls out "want mommy to come to bed" it is impossible to not climb up those stairs and into the waiting arms of your adoring tot. When he says "snugglebunnies" as you wrap your arms around him, you just cant help but smile.

Uncooked rice is an excellent item to keep the wolverine occupied with for at least 20 minutes while i cook. It is a mess , because although people say it helps to develop good "pouring" skills and mechanical development, my little mess pot likes to throw it across the kitchen. Luckily, we have his and her brooms.

I believe my refridgerator is alive, but obviously on life support. I have never heard one that makes MORE noise. Im not sure what is going on in there, but it cannot be good.

So from reading the news today ive learned that :
Republican campaigners are hoping that Hillarys Senior Thesis from her Wellesley days will somehow prove she is a socialist/commie. Proving once again that in the presidential elections its all about spin and strategy and not message and the candidates records.

Angelina Jolie is expanding her family. She must have the energy of 1,000 toddlers and a staff of help to match.

Somewhere right now people are sick, dying, starving, or alone. I am fortunate enough to not be in that group. Not right now. In my estimation that makes today a VERY good day for me and mine. Perhaps i can reflect that back out there tomorrow.
