Because your mine, I walk the line.....

Well they announced the Oscar nominations today. I must say im unenthused. I can count on one hand the movies ive seen since the wolverine as born. Who has time??? We used to catch everthing that came out....we would go almost every weekend. I guess it was a hobby. I used to know a ridiculous amount of movie trivia, etc. Now that brainspace is taken up with everything there is to know about raising a one year old. Any air of mystery or intrigue that may have once surrounded me is loooong gone.....i am an open book...i am a busy, tired, worn out mommy.

So here is a list of the major Oscar category nominees....Place your bets and we will see who comes closest. And since many of you have seen as few of these as me it should be fun. I did see Brokeback Mountain this past weekend with a friend. She liked it more then i did. I thought it was alright....but the narrative didnt quite work for me. And Jake Gyllenhal and Anne Hathaway i thought didnt age well over 20 years...i just didnt believe them. Although Anne remided me so much of my aunt Linda that every time she came on screen in a different crazy wig and makeup and press on nails i laughed. Heath Ledger is just as good as everyone says. And Michelle Williams of Dawson Creek fame was really good.

Im going with Ang Lee for Best Director. I dont think the film will win but he has been screwed several times in the past (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense & Sensibilities, The Ice Storm) PLUS since they arent going to win best film the academy will throw them this bone.

Best Film- Crash....I havent seen it, but it won the SAG award and the same people make up the academy.

Best Actor- Phillip Seymour Hoffman...the academy looooves to give supporting actors turned lead awards. These are the guys who are actually great actors but never get the lead roles because the are fat or look funny or arent a movie star. Again...i havent seen Capote....cant imagine a more boring biopic. I hope Heath or Joaquin get it...and Joaquin might be an upset...people would love to here his Johnny Cash tribute. And would love for him to accept in his honor. Never underestimate the academys love of human interest stories and dead people.

Best Actress- Reese Witherspoon- The academy loooves to give this one to pretty young starlets AND she is playing the beloved, now deceased June Carter Cash....i like Reese but the award SHOULD go to veteran stage actor Felicity Huffman whose turn as a man wanting to be a woman is supposed to be incredible. But hey...i havent seen either of these movies either...

Best supposting actor and actress- Paul Giamatti- the academy did a screw job on him last year when he didnt get nominated for Sideways and the year before when he didnt get a nod for American Splendor. The man is an acting machine but he gets looked over for Russel Crow types. Actress will probably go to Rachel WEisz for the constant gardener...she is pregnant and they just cant resist that. Again i didnt see either film. I would love to see Michelle Williams win simply because she used to be on Dawsons Creek.


Dont you hate it when your child is asleep and your holding them and when you put them down they wake right up....twice in a row....and then the phone rings...and its your mother in law....and then you just DONT have it in you to get that child asleep a third time. So then you decide to just wait until the hubby gets home at 10......aw well...the wolverine just smiled at me...he knows im typing about him.
